The first step before doing an ASO audit, and to understand how is app store optimization doing , you need to understand your ASO position
Another lesson app marketers have not learned is that long tail keywords convert better. Why? Because these keywords catch people later in the buying/conversion cycle. A person searching for an app about “shoes” is probably browsing, and not ready to buy. On the other hand, someone searching for “cheapest shoe customizing app” practically has their wallet out!
For those who are not aware yet, long tail keywords are keywords or key phrases that are more specific (usually 3-5 words) than more common “head” keywords. These keywords get less search traffic, but will usually have a higher conversion value, as they focus on a more specific niche. You must check your longtail keywords rankings to assess or reassess your ASO strategy – this video will explain to you why you should focus on long tail keywords when optimizing your App.
Just a heads up, it is much easier to rank for these long tail keywords than for more common keywords. Another huge benefit for focusing on these keywords is that, although these keywords are used less in app store search, the visitor that finds your app using them is more likely to buy or download your app.
The longer and more specific the long tail keywords are, the higher the chances of conversion are.
Just to give you an example: I started my search with the term ‘pokemon go’. I quickly discovered I wanted something to help me track down where Pokemons are, using Google maps. Then I preferred a live radar map for Pokemon GO. My search still continues, but now I use terms like [Live radar for Pokemon Go]. A long tail keyword. Using this keyword, I found new apps, which more closely resembled the app that I really wanted. Chances for me to buy this app largely increased.
