An icon’s sole purpose is to get people to click on it and download your app.
Many developers make the mistake of getting an icon designed that caters to taste of their corporate decision-makers.
It is NOT a company logo.
The icon must entice people to press your app. It has to be better than the competition.
To find the perfect design, your icon designer must think about how people are clicking apps.
The icon should be optimised for conversion – and not just branding. Or how it will look good on merch like t-shirts and coffee mugs.
It should be memorable and relatable; your app is not Facebook or Tiktok – yet.
Branding is great but conversion is better.
To prevent from making mistake #4, understand that icons need to be a tool for downloading your app more than anything else at this point.
ASO mistake #4 is all about unoptimised (or crappy) Icons.
When designing your icon, think of the user.
Your CEOs, managers, investors might love your current design….but then it might not be to the user’s liking.
They won’t click – and you lose a potential download.
Your app’s icon must attract the attention of App Store users.
It should represent the purpose of your app in a creative way and stand out from all the other icons.
And always entice people to click.
